Whitehall Win the Business Excellence AwardDuncan Gill 40, of The Whitehall Hotel was presented with the Unsung Hero Award by Hayley Tamaddon who plays Delilah Dingle in ITV’s Emmerdale. A glitzy ceremony was held at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool last Thursday, organised by the Lancashire & Blackpool Tourist Board.

The Unsung Hero Award category is for individuals who work behind the scenes in the tourism industry who have demonstrated an exceptional level of dedication and an exceptional work ethic. This category was highly contested and the judges were impressed by Duncan’s 20 years of continuous service in such a difficult position.

Andrew Armstrong of The Whitehall and MJS restaurant was runner up for the Lancashire Young Chef award.

Owner of the Whitehall, Neil Bullows commented, the Lets Awards are highly coverted and we are all so pleased that we had two members of staff short listed. We are delighted that Duncan won this award he is truly deserving, and I have no doubt Andrew will be back in the running next year.

Hotel voted one of Britain's Best

A Darwen Hotel has been ranked among the best in the country after winning a national tourism award.

The hotel underwent rigorous inspections and visits from representatives of the Best Practice Forum. The awards sponsored by the Observer Newspaper and the Caterer and Hotelkeeper recognise UK businesses for their willingness to adopt or adapt best practice of in all aspects of their operation.

Whitehall judged to be quality assured by The Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist Board (LBTB).

Establishments were visited and assessed rigorously using the same point scoring system. Only those venues scoring 60 or above for quality were able to be rewarded and now entitled to use the 'Quality Assured Mark'.

Head of Business Support at the Tourist Board Steve Partington said:

"We are keen to emphasise the importance of providing quality food, a quality eating out experience and willingness to support local produce".
